On Sunday, July 1, 2012, Kellenberg Memorial High School held its 25th Anniversary closing Mass and Barbeque. Many teachers, alumni, students, and their families gathered at Kellenberg to celebrate the end of the 25th Anniversary. It was so nice to see everyone gathered together in the summer to celebrate the great 25 years Kellenberg Memorial has had so far and to look forward to the next 25 years.
The day began with Mass held in the auditorium. The celebrant of this Mass was Fr. Philip. Since Fr. Philip has been with Kellenberg since the beginning, he, as well as many other faculty members, were able to see how much Kellenberg has changed since then. His homily focused on time and how Kellenberg Memorial has really changed and grown for the past 25 years. As Fr. Philip said to the graduating Seniors at the Baccalaureate Mass, “change is inevitable, growth is optional”, he once again said this statement during his homily on Sunday. He believes that Kellenberg has changed and grown for the better and it will continue to grow as the next 25 years go by. During the Mass, the Gregorian Consortium led the Mass in song. Many Kellenberg students participated in the Mass by serving as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion or as ushers, as well as serving throughout the day as members of S.A.L.T. (Service Allegiance Leadership Teamwork). To show that Kellenberg has grown for the past 25 years and that it will continue to grow, Br. Kenneth gave each person at Mass a bag of mixed seeds, symbolizing Kellenberg Memorial as “a beautiful place to grow.”
After the Mass, everyone moved out to the athletic fields for a fun barbeque. It was a beautiful day to celebrate the great year Kellenberg had with delicious food, raffles, and even a bounce-house. The beautiful cake had several pictures of Kellenberg through the years on it. You were really able to see how much the school has changed. The 25th Anniversary closing Mass and Barbecue was a great way to kick of summer and enter into the Year of Faith to come.
