Article by Madison Callinan, Class of 2018:
On September 18, the freshman class gathered for their first mass together. Leaving second period twenty minutes early, the class of 2018 chatted excitedly on their way to the gym. Upon entering, much to their delight, they discovered that the gym was all theirs! As the sunlight filtered through the new blue and gold stained glass windows, the atmosphere was magical. On such a beautiful day it only seemed fitting to praise the Lord. Many enthusiastic freshmen volunteered to sing with the Jubilee Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Zider. Newly-learned favorites from Music 9, such as “Sweet Redeemer” and “Open the Eyes,” inspired, everyone, even the teachers, to join in. With the support of the singers plus the entire freshman class, Mass became an exhilarating time of worship. Celebrant Fr. Philip explained in his homily how this was just the beginning of an incredible four year journey at Kellenberg. He encouraged all freshman to get involved in clubs and activities so they would have an enriched and memorable high school experience. The mass also commemorated the four Spanish Marianist Martyrs; Miguel, Florencio, Joaquin, and Sabino who followed the call of Jesus in the Society of Mary. Their commendable courage and sacrifice inspires us all to be better disciples for Christ and our Church.
