MT 11: 28-30
The gospel of Matthew talks about the gentle invitation of our Lord. Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” Here all of mankind is addressed, because we all work and exhaust ourselves in search for the truth, but our Lord gives us rest by saying that He is the one true revelation. “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me.” When Jesus says this, we are reminded that we find spiritual rest in Him but proclaims we must wear a yoke and bear a burden. The yoke in the gospel of Matthew is an aid in our spiritual struggle, rather than an impediment as it was in the time of Jesus. The yoke symbolizes our fellowship with Christ. We are reminded by this fellowship that His commandments are not burdensome. Our burden is light and the yoke of Christ is easy.
