Luke 1:46-56
In Luke’s gospel, Mary is with Elizabeth and finds out that Elizabeth will also bear a child even in her old age. Mary rejoices and praises the Lord. “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior,” she exclaims. She thanks God for the many things he has done for her and thanks him for his great mercy. Mary is the model of discipleship. Her actions should be reflected in our everyday lives. But instead of worshiping God we hide our beliefs because we don’t want people to judge us or look at us like we have three heads. We are scared to live out our faith and that is a big problem in today’s society. What is there to be afraid of? Religious persecution, terrorism, public humiliation, etc. Fear nothing! “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? The Lord is on my side as my helper; I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.” –Psalm 118: 6-9
