MT 1:1-17
Today’s gospel goes into detail about the genealogy of Jesus Christ. It starts all the way back at the time of Abraham through King David, all the way up to Jesus Christ. The gospel says that from Abraham to David is fourteen generations, from David to the Babylonian exile is another fourteen generations, and from the Babylonian exile to Christ is yet another fourteen generations. Therefore, there were 42 generations between the time of Abraham and the time of Jesus.
This gospel is interesting to me because it puts all events of the Bible into a chronological order that is easy to understand. Seeing everything put into this order helps us as Catholics to better understand the timeframe in which events occurred throughout the Bible.
