John 1:1-5, 9-14
In the Gospel, John clearly states who the person of Christ is. He predates the beginning, he is with God, he is God. Through Christ comes life, and light. This light, this love overcomes any evil, as it always has and will evermore. And, as John writes, the pure light of Christ came into the world. The very world that came to be through him did not know or wish to know him or accept his love. Those who did embrace and accept Christ became Children of God and were reborn in him.
How true this reading rings. Without Christ we are nothing more than a drop in the ocean. Our words hold no value, our actions hold no valor. With the ‘Word’ that is Christ we have the power to be witnesses to his love. By seeing the glory of Christ, we, as Children of God, have the awesome responsibility to be mirrors reflecting the light that is Christ Jesus.
