A team of destiny-the “Lady Firebird Track and Field team” is on its way to one of its finest seasons in three years-the last year that it had a runaway victory in the NSCHSGAA Championships. After capturing the bronze cup in the “Marine Corps Christmas Classic,” the team enjoyed another well-rounded performance at the 120 team Stanner Games held today at the NYC armory. Seniors Katie Cavanaugh (pictured below) and Odrine Belot led the way with a 1-2 finish in the 55 hurdles. Cavanaugh and Belot are both High School All-Americans as they were part of the winning National Championship Shuttle Hurdle Relay, a mark they set that is also the National Catholic High School record and New York State record for that event. Both came back today to place in the 55 dash (Cavanugh) and the 300 meters (Belot). Freshman Jazmine Fray set al all-time KMHS freshman record, finishing third in the Varsity 1000 meters. Senior Ashlin Conroy placed well in the mile, and the Shuttle Hurdle relay team of Lisa Abramski, Melany Belot, Daniella Correia, and Sinclaire Smith took silver medals. The NSCHSGAA Championship meet is at St. Anthony’s H.S. on Jan. 29th and the State-qualifying CHSAA Intersectional Championships are there as well on Feb.18th.
