The boys varsity basketball team held their annual get-together of alumni players and current members of the team this past Saturday, December 26 at Kellenberg Memorial High School. Now in it’s tenth year, the basketball scrimmage bridges the time period of former players and the those on the 2015-2016 team.
The boy’s played a six quarter scrimmage and then the Alumni swapped stories of what it was like to play basketball as a Firebird, talked to the younger players about memorable games and what Kellenberg Memorial taught them during their four years in school.
“It felt great to come home to Kellenberg and seeing the coaches and the team,” said Derrick Okunpolar ’15. “I missed it a lot.”
Marco Martino, former captain and class of 2011 commented, “I miss playing on the Kellenberg basketball floor tremendously.”
After the scrimmage the boys enjoyed pizza and soda as the alumni reminded the current team about the pride they all share as fellow members of the Kellenberg basketball program. Current senior and co-captain Steven Torre remarked, “I enjoy the alumni coming back and sharing their experiences with us. I miss these guys a lot and it’s always great playing with them again. I hope to do the same after I graduate and give back to the younger players.”
