Our Lady of Guadalupe, also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe, is a title of the Virgin Mary associated with a celebrated pictorial image housed in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. In 1531 miracles began to happen. Jesus’ own mother appeared to Juan Diego. The sign of the roses miraculously cured people of deadly illnesses. It inspired people that they should convert to Christianity. Within a short time, six million Native Mexicans had themselves baptized as Christians. Where Mary first appeared to Juan Diego there is now a shrine dedicated to her. And in 1771in Mexico City the basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe was built. The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is on December 12.
