Article by Adrianna Duggan, class of 2014:
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated each year on December 8. The feast commemorates the conception of Mary, the mother of God, without original sin. Normally, Kellenberg students are given the day off from classes so they can attend Mass with family or friends on this Holy Day of Obligation.
This year, however, December 8th fell on a Saturday. With many sports teams and activities holding events at school on that Saturday, Kellenberg decided to celebrate Mass in the auditorium at 9:00 on Saturday morning. Members of many different sports teams and clubs gathered in the auditorium to celebrate a beautiful Mass, with musical accompaniment by Gregorian Consortium and Mr. Bursig.
The Mass was celebrated by Father Tom Cardone, who was assisted by Father Todd Saccoccia, Father Albert Bertoni, and Father Phillip Eichner. Senior Natalia Rincon and Junior Mary Hearon as well as members of the wrestling team, helped the Mass run smoothly by reading and preparing the gifts.
The morning brought together members of Cheerleading, Hiking Club, Wrestling, Dance team and many other sports with their teachers and coaches. By celebrating the Feast of the Immaculate Conception at Kellenberg, students and faculty alike continued to live of the Year of Faith in community.
