This past Friday night the Kellenberg Memorial Varsity Softball team played a benefit game against Our Lady of Mercy Academy at Hofstra Stadium with all proceeds from the event benefiting the Solosky Memorial Children’s Fund.
This fund was created by Kellenberg Memorial High School for the children of Edward Solosky who died tragically last year in an automobile accident.
Solosky, who was from Westbury and had family in Mineola, was also a 1980 graduate of Chaminade High School and the Kellenberg Athletic Director.
At the start of the evening, Katie and Lauren Solosky threw out the first pitch in honor of their father.
Among the players on the team was former Mineola Athletic Association player and Kellenberg senior Caitlin Kennedy.
The fans in attendance were able to pay tribute to Solosky and also were able watch an exciting game of softball as the Firebirds continued their undefeated season by winning 1-0 on a homerun from catcher Alexandra Pisciotta.
