Kellenberg’s Candace Belvedere committed this week to play basketball at St. Joseph’s University.
The junior from Merrick led the Firebirds to the league semifinals and the CHSAA Class A state tournament. A 6-2 center, Belvedere averaged 11.1 points and 11.7 rebounds – including five offensive boards – to go with 2.9 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. She upped her scoring to 14.6 points per game during the playoffs.
Academically, Forbes and the Princeton Review ranked St. Joseph’s among the top universities in the region. And Belvedere will join a basketball program that went 23-9 last season and won the Atlantic 10 conference championship.
