Brother Joseph C. Fox’s eighth grader Victor Louie recently participated in the Scripps Long Island Regional Spelling Bee at Hofstra University in March 2016. Victor qualified for Hofstra as the winner in the Latin School annual spelling bee. He competed with thirty students in grades six, seven, and eight and completed fourteen rounds of spelling words that progressively became more difficult as the rounds continued. Afterwards, joining 132 competitive spelling participants at the Hofstra Spelling Bee was a welcoming challenge for Victor Louie. He first had to complete a written spelling test which led to the narrowing down of 40 contestants. Victor then proceeded to the next phase of the competition comprised of spelling dictation by the judges to the remaining candidates on stage. After several rounds of spelling words from different backgrounds, Victor Louie proudly placed 25 out of 132 and ranked in the 20th percentile for this spelling competition. After his elimination, Victor left Hofstra University with a personal photo, plaque, and a memorable experience. Congratulations to Victor Louie and his rewarding accomplishment in this spelling event.
