Today’s gospel recounts the days leading up to Jesus’ death. The Jewish leaders were plotting to kill Him, as he threatened their power. Jesus lived out the spirit of the law, unlike the Pharisees who followed the letter of the law. We see a glimpse of Judas as well, the one who will betray Jesus. John recounts that judas was a thief, and Jesus must know this, yet He doesn’t throw Judas out. All the players are in place for Jesus to face the cross…and at this point in the Lenten season, it is good to remind ourselves that without the cross there is no resurrection. Suffering can bear fruit…so stand strong in the face of rejection and hurt…you are in excellent company.
