Matthew 25:31-46
During the season of Lent we often give up something. We take something that we like and enjoy and for forty days we give it up. But the greater spirit of Lent is found in this gospel. Christ is asking us to do something; not to give up something. He is telling us to reach out to others; to do something for others. This Lent let us go a step farther and do things, not just give up things. Do you have a coat to give someone? Can you pray for those in prison? Can you donate food to your parish pantry? Could you welcome a shy classmate into your group? Could you shovel the sidewalk for an elderly neighbor? Could you be more thoughtful at home? Make this the Lent of not just giving up but the Lent of doing!
