On February 28, 2018, editors of The Phoenix newspaper attended Adelphi Press Day at Adelphi University and took part in the Quill Awards ceremony for high school newspapers.

In the awards ceremony, The Phoenix and its writers took home a number of awards in various categories. These awards include first place in the category of Most Outstanding Newspaper, second place in Best Editorial and Best Sports Story for Anya Murphy ’19 and PJ Darmody ’18 respectively, second place for Best Layout, and an honorable mention for Best News Story for Stephanie Parmiter ’18.

At the event, a number of professional journalists held a panel discussion on the field of journalism and the issues that it is currently facing as a craft.

The Quill Awards is a fifteen-year tradition at Adelphi. Kellenberg Memorial has participated in the past, but the honor of first place in Most Outstanding is a first-time achievement for Kellenberg Memorial.
