Junior Gillian Blackwood and senior Megan Carelus ran to a 1-3 finish at the annual NSCHSGAA Christmas Classic. That outstanding performance was the tone of the Meet for the Kellenberg girls track and field team. Nora Bennett and Brianna Lausev took first and second in the 3000 meters, both breaking 11 minutes, a Kellenberg first for two girls in the same race. The duo battled it out with two equally game and courageous St. John the Baptist runners before pulling away in the final lap. Sophomore Maureen Lewin and senior Ceara Conroy also finished first and second in the 1000 meters. Camryn Beckford won the Varsity 300 meters in 43.01 closing in on the freshman school record, with sophomore Chrissy Foster third. Junior Arielle Ramirez sprinted to the fastest 55 meters of her life in taking the bronze, part of a rebirth of the Kellenberg sprinters. It all adds up to a promising season for the Birds!
