On Tuesday, December 1, Kellenberg held the 2015 Advent prayer service. I was given the opportunity to introduce the prayer service. After decorating our home rooms for Christmas, the prayer service truly kicked off the new liturgical season. From a humorous video starring Mr. Murphy and Mr. Buckley, to live animals at the nativity scene, the prayer service conveyed the message of the Advent season to the entire school.
In the video, seniors Alex Basile and Julie Scudieri served as the narrators and explained the origins of various Christmas traditions. Some of these traditions included the candy cane, holly, garland, and the Christmas tree. While they all have religious meanings, we usually don’t spend any time thinking about them. The prayer service reminded me that for the Christmas season we should be thinking about Christ in the Advent and Christmas season.
This Christmas, our goal should be to make every part of our celebration Christ-centered. Is Jesus included in every element of your Christmas celebration?
We hope that this Advent we will reflect on how we celebrate.
