On Monday December 9, this years Advent Drive was introduced. Each year Kellenberg holds a different drive in order to help those less fortunate. This year we will be collecting toys for children through the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation as well as toys and winter clothing for the Saint Vincent De Paul society. Through these donations we hope to bring joy and comfort to the less fortunate people in our very own neighborhoods of Long Island. In order to explain the drive, a video was played on morning announcements which gave some background on these two foundations and asked students to pick up an ornament during their lunch period outside of the ARK. These ornaments were labeled with specific toys for girls and boys ranging from ages 2-12. Some examples included board games, remote control cars, and baby dolls. In addition to these toys, some ornaments were also labeled with various winter clothing items. Many students were also dressed in elf and Santa Claus costumes hoping to spread some Christmas cheer and encourage their fellow classmates to participate in the drive and to be as generous as possible. Along with those students, two members of the Marine Corps were in the hallways thanking the students and handing out ornaments. It was great to see everyone joining in on this great cause and having a fun time while doing so. During this advent season our Kellenberg Family hopes to help those around us and to remember the simple phrase “Come baby Jesus open our hearts and our minds to your love.”
