JN 1:6-8, 19-28
As we read today’s Gospel, I think we are called to put ourselves in the shoes of John the Baptist. Just as John was called to testify the light, we too must prove to the unbelievers or those who have stumbled from Jesus’ path that Christ is alive and upon us each and every day, especially during the Advent season. Therefore, we must act accordingly. We, His people, are only mere candles of Jesus’ greater fire as He burns in each one of us. Our mission is to enlighten all people and to illuminate and strengthen the bond, the faith, and the trust we have placed in the Lord’s guiding hands.
During the season of Advent, preparation for the birth of Christ should surely be at the forefront. We must make way for the Lord as John did in the Gospel. This is possible by being the best version of ourselves and giving Jesus hope in all of His creation. We are called to spread the light of Christ to all people so that when He is born to us, we can make Him proud and He may find us worthy of His glorious presence. This Advent season, illumination of the world with the fire of Christ should be our top priority.
