MT 9:35–10:1, 5A, 6-8
Jesus is the Good Shepherd who cares for all his sheep. In this Gospel, Jesus is deeply distraught when He sees those who are in distress. Jesus decides to send His apostles to care for those in need. These people that the apostles will care for are sick, troubled, and need to be cured. He wants them to act like a shepherd who tends to his sheep. In the same way, we can go out and care for those sheep who are in need of a shepherd. Especially during this season of Advent, we should care for those who are in need of aid and who may not have anyone to help them. I believe that this can be done by practicing the Corporal Works of Mercy – feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, visit the sick, shelter the homeless. This Advent season, we all should try to act as Jesus did as the Good Shepherd, tending to the needs of others.
