LK 20:27-38
The Gospel reading for December 6 tells us the story of Jesus asking his disciples “what is your opinion?” Jesus asks his disciples if one of their one hundred sheep were to go astray in the hills, would they leave all ninety-nine just to find the one. Jesus then proceeds to say that if the shepherd were to find this one particular sheep, he would rejoice more over this one sheep than over the other ninety-nine that stayed with him. In the end, Jesus relates this passage to our heavenly Father. Jesus says that God wishes just as much as the shepherd to keep all of his “little ones” safe and close to His heart. This analogy between a shepherd and his sheep parallels between God and his believers, as well as with Jesus and his disciples.
