JN 1:1-18
In the beginning of John’s account, he describes God as the word. John doesn’t describe God as any word, but he describes Him in a spiritual, scriptural sense. God is the creator of all things visible and invisible. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (JN 1:5) The light, in this case, symbolizes Jesus, and the darkness symbolizes Satan. This predicts Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. John the Baptist, the cousin of Jesus, came for testimony. He came to bring glad tidings to the poor. John also included the holy words from The Angelus, “And the word became flesh, and made his dwelling among us…” (JN 1:14) This symbolizes Jesus’ incarnation, which means he is true God and true Man. This is why we prepare for Advent, for the coming of our Messiah.
