LK 17:20-25
Matt’s Gospel is the perfect definition of foreshadowing. The disciples don’t understand who Elijah is or his purpose. Jesus says that “Elijah has already come”, and that people are treating him (St. John the Baptist) cruelly. He then goes on to state that He will also “suffer at their hands”, a warning of his own Crucifixion. Jesus is teaching us to look deeper into situations than just what is on the surface. God may be telling us secrets hidden in our everyday life, but we may be too busy to listen to Him. We shouldn’t ignore the signs we asked God to show us.
