Alumni Helping Hands at Stella Maris Retreat House

Please join us for a new alumni event that will improve the apostolic lives of current Firebirds! Alumni Helping Hands at Stella Maris Retreat House will take place on Saturday, October 30th, from 8 AM to 3 PM, for a day of alumni volunteering together to give back to the school that shaped their hearts and minds. Stella Maris, a rustic, 7-acre property nestled along Champlin Creek in Islip, is Kellenberg’s home for day retreats for all Firebirds in grades six through twelve. With a main house, a caretaker’s house, a pool, a deck, and a dock, there are many important maintenance and beautification projects that are perfect for Alumni Helping Hands to tackle.

Volunteers will meet at Kellenberg Memorial High School at 8 AM. A bus will transport the group to Islip with a to-go bagel brunch provided for the ride. Projects ranging from painting to gardening/landscaping will be assigned once the group arrives at Stella Maris. Lunch will be served at 1:30 PM and the bus will leave Islip to bring the group back to KMHS at 2:30 PM. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to Saint Mary’s Food Distribution Center in East Islip.

This event is rain or shine, as there are both indoor and outdoor projects to be done. It is recommended that volunteers wear long pants to avoid ticks, as well as work boots or shoes that can get dirty. Bug spray along with work gloves and proper tools will be provided. Volunteers should register no later than Monday, October 25th.

Thank you to all the alumni volunteers who take the time to give back to the Firebird family!
