The Boys Varsity Volleyball team rode an 11-game win streak before defeating 5-time champion Chaminade 3-2 for the CHSAA League Championship on May 14.
Coach Heitner stated, “As a coach, I could not be more proud of this season. This year was special, coming off two heartbreaking losses in the Finals for the past two seasons as the number 1 seed. This year the pressure was on Chaminade as the 1 seed, and they folded in the final.”
Coach Heitner noted that the many comeback wins throughout the season prepared them when the Finals went to set five.
“It was something we endured all season. We knew we would win,” said Coach Heitner.

Notable performances were made up and down the roster. Ryan Bargellini set a school record for a career with 1000 assists and also a single game record of 61 assists. Ryan was also awarded NSCHSAA tournament MVP. Michael Tagios finished his career with 500 kills and was awarded the 2026 NSCHSAA Player of the Year.
Prior to their 11 game win streak, Kellenberg’s-own New York State Hall of Famer Coach Von Schoenermarck was called in to hold a program-wide practice. The boys and girls practiced alongside each other in a powerful expression of school spirit and mutual support between athletes.
According to senior Gael Inamagua, “That practice sparked the win streak.”
Mr. Heitner could not be more proud of his boys this season, noting the program’s 10th NSCHSAA title.
The following weekend, the boys team made its first appearance in Kellenberg history at the New York State Tournament, in which they finished 3rd overall in Tournament play.
This was a phenomenal conclusion for the Firebirds, who had a slow start to the season at 1 – 2 in league play.
Kellenberg’s Volleyball program continues to exhibit a dedication to excellence. In addition to the Boys League title, Coach Von’s Ladies captured their third straight league title on November 3, defeating third-seeded St. Anthony’s 3-0.
