Saint Nicholas, also called Saint Nicholas the Wonder Worker, is very influential to people in both the Catholic Church and the Greek Orthodox Church. Saint Nicholas is sometimes called the Wonder Worker because he has so many miracles. His feast day in December 6. He is the patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, thieves, children, pawnbrokers, and various students in cities in Europe. Saint Nicholas’ parents both died when he was young, so he had to live with his uncle. As he grew older, he went around the cities to children and placed toys in their shoes at night. This is where we get stockings from on Christmas. Santa Claus gets the nickname, St. Nick, because on Christmas it was believed that he went around just like Saint Nicholas and placed toys in stockings. This saint inspires me to become more generous. When I need help in school, I will pray to Saint Nicholas for his help.
