The underclass members of the Kellenberg girls track team won the combined Freshman-Sophomore NSCHSGAA Championships at St. John the Baptist High School. The team scored 94 points with Sacred Heart Academy second with 52 points, and St. Anthony’s third at 47 points.
The team started their championship run with 1-2 finish in the steeplechase by sophomores Nora Bennett and Emma Dougherty. They finished with a gold medal victory by Tori Duignan, Rachel Cooney, Julia Bryant, and Gabby Bussereth.
Sophomore Gillian Blackwood won the triple jump and finished second in both the high hurdles and high jump. Freshman Maureen Lewin and Maya Richardson went 1-2 in the 1500 and sophomore Julia Bryant won the 3000 meters.
Grace Browne added a gold to her 800 meter silver medal performance when she combined with Richardson, Lewin, and anchor Brianna Lausev for first place in the 4×800 relay. Christina Faber, Erin Doherty, and Maddy DeMarco all combined for points in the shot put. Kaitlin Romaine took silver in the long jump and was Kellenberg’s sole finalist in the 100 meters. Chrissy Foster took silver in the 200 meters. A great all around team performance!
