On Saturday, 100 students from the Phoenix and Firebird choruses under the direction of Mr. Clark Blanton responded to the call of the Spirit of Giving that has filled the halls of Kellenberg this past week. Mr. Blanton’s son Luke, who has Down Syndrome, is a member of the The League of Yes, a baseball organization for people of all ages with varying levels of disability and special need.
The League of Yes held a ribbon cutting, and their first day of play at a newly built handicapped accessible turf field at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. Choir members responded enthusiastically when they were asked to sing the National Anthem for the field’s inaugural day of play. Many of the students stayed to “play ball” and act as a “BUDDY” (Because Unbelievable Dedication Deserves You) for the players. These students are indeed “fertile ground” for the “seeds that are sown” at Kellenberg.
