LK 4:24-30
In today’s gospel, Jesus announces to a group in a synagogue, that like Elijah was rejected so too will Christ be rejected. Jesus reminds us that no prophet is accepted in his own country. A powerful and important lesson for those of us attempting to follow in Christ’s footsteps. There are times when we will be ridiculed, mocked, laughed at or rejected for our faith. Jesus was run out of the synagogue by an angry crowd. And eventually his words came true as he was led to his death on Good Friday.
To be more Christ-like, we must be willing to face rejection because of our identity as Christian. Not an easy calling, but a necessary one for us all.
