JN 8:31-42
Today’s gospel is a message of about truth. Jesus addresses the Jewish people of his time by reminding them that Abraham did not reject His Father’s word, rather accepted God’s revelation. Jesus is bringing to the forefront the reality that He will be rejected and killed for speaking truth. The time is quickly approaching where He will be nailed to the cross, but only after being tortured and spit upon and stripped. The message in 2016 is the same. Speaking truth may result in rejection. When we speak truth as Christians in a world where the culture is contrary to our values, we can be ridiculed and rejected. Can we stand up? Can we speak truth in the face of a volatile culture? Maybe it’s time.
