JN 8:51-59
In today’s gospel, Jesus addresses the skeptical Jewish leaders. He tells them that He knew Abraham before Abraham came to be. Jesus even refers to Himself as I AM, God’s revealed name to Moses. The Jewish leaders do no understand, or perhaps refuse to see the truth and pick up stones to throw at Jesus. Jesus is able to escape. This is no different from today. When truth is spoken and it defies convention or cultural norms, we are called names and instead of intelligent conversation, Spurs and insults are thrown out. Can we withstand the rejection and name calling?
