Lent is a time of preparation. Most people often give up something they enjoy during the time of lent but often don’t realize why this is a tradition and what the deeper meaning is. Lent is a time of preparing ourselves to be more open and closer to God in time of the Easter season. Lent is just like Advent for Christmas, it is the building up towards Good Friday and Easter Sunday. By sacrificing something we enjoy for Lent we replicate the suffering Jesus had to endure while wandering in the desert for 40 days. Although the suffering is not the same, giving up a luxury we enjoy is more of a symbolic understanding and appreciation for Jesus’ sacrifice. As a teen during the time of lent it is important to examine your conscience to identify reoccurring sins, upon doing this attending confession to cleanse your soul of such sins is important to honor and identify why Jesus died for us.
