MT 6: 1-6, 16-18
In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus tells us to perform righteous deeds for our own sake, so that we may gain salvation. He does not want us to boast how religious we are because than it diminishes the value of the deed. As Catholics, we are allowed to practice freely, but it shall be done in reverent ways. It can be hard to do acts of kindness in secret, but in the end, the reward is so much greater than feeling like you are better than everyone because everyone saw you do a good deed. This Lent try and perform righteous deeds in secret because it’s the good thing to do rather than in hopes of getting something in return.
