LK 9:22-25
Today’s Gospel is from Luke, where Jesus clearly states to his Apostles a choice that must be made. Either “anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” or “whoever wishes to save his life will lose it”. What does this say to us and how can we apply it to our lives?
We can compare this choice to the story of Jesus and the Rich Young Man. Jesus told him that the man could live with Him in heaven forever and all he needed to do was get ride of all his possessions; however, the man was unable to let go of all his earthly possessions and found them to be more important than Christ himself. In today’s world, maybe this message does not apply to such an extreme as leaving all your possessions behind. Maybe we can translate this in our society by cutting out that hour spent on social media, texting, video games, or Netflix; we can use the time by helping out family members, maybe even volunteering at your Church or getting more involved at school.
As we become more advanced into our Lent season, may we reflect these words of Christ. May Lent provide us with a new hope and new perspective of our faith-whether it means going to Church, Confession, or Adoration; let Christ into your lives this Lent.
