JN 8:12-20
In today’s Gospel reading, we read of a discussion between Jesus and the Pharisees. Jesus sates, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” The Pharisees quickly devalue Jesus’ words saying his testimony cannot be verified because Jesus is testifying on his own behalf. Jesus says that He, Himself, is testifying along with His Father who sent Him. Jesus directly reveals He is the Son of God; “If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” From these words we learn the importance of knowing God as His whole: the Trinity. To draw close to God the Father, we must draw close to His son, Jesus. Through prayer, reflection, mass, and scripture this is possible. We must know one to know the others.
