Jn 11:45-56
This Gospel reading emphasizes the importance of doing God’s will, even under difficult circumstances. In this Gospel reading, Jesus has just performed the miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead, and the news of this marvel has quickly spread among the people. The Pharisees, fearing that the Romans may destroy the nation if the people start following Jesus, take Caiaphas’ advice to kill Jesus. Even though Jesus knew of the Pharisees’ plan, he understood his duty, and continued with God’s will. He did not let his fear of the Pharisees’ plan stand in the way of his responsibility to fulfill God’s plan.
This Lent, we should follow in Jesus’ example. As He was not hindered by fear, let us this Lent have the courage of performing God’s will, even in the most difficult situations.
