Bishop Murphy made his annual visit to Kellenberg Memorial on January 28. While he was there he stopped into David Bonagura’s 10th grade Advanced Latin Class and shared his own experiences as a young man at the Latin School in Boston.
There was a dialogue on the Canticle of Zachary, the Benedictus, which the students had translated for homework. The class ended with the bestowal of a formal episcopal blessing by Bishop Murphy in Latin.
Bishop Murphy also met with the entire junior class in the auditorium to speak about religious freedom. Topics included his being appointed by President G. W. Bush to serve on a committee on how religious freedom was being attacked in foreign lands and the current Affordable Care Act. The bishop told the students the Church wants health care for all but the government does not have the right to take away our freedom of conscience.
