Melany Belot’s goals are pretty simple.
“I just want to be the best,” she said. “I want to be No. 1 and it’s hard work and dedication all the time.”
Belot and her Kellenberg teammates were No. 1 Sunday, putting up an impressive 70 points to be crowned the champions of the CHSAA Outdoor Intersectional City championships in girls track at Icahn Stadium on Randalls Island.
“We’re such a dedicated team,” Belot said. “We work so hard to compete here all season.”
The hard work paid off as she won three events — the triple jump (37 feet, 6 inches), the 100-meter hurdles (15.09 seconds) and the 400 hurdles (1:06.66).
“She was our leader and she has been during this championship season,” Firebirds coach Marty Brown said. “She leads the kids in warm-ups during the week so her leadership is not only her performance but her example.”
