In astonishing fashion, the Lady Firebird Sophomore track and field team won the CHSAA Sophomore team title on a rainy Sunday on Randall’s Island in New York City.
Led by an impressive triple gold medal victory turned in by Gillian Blackwood in the triple jump, the high jump, and the high hurdles, the team overcame an early deficit. Kaitlin Romaine won the long jump, and the 4×400 relay team of Julia Bryant, Kailee Alberto, Tori Duignan, and Grace Brown not only won their event but led a Kellenberg 1-2-3 sweep in that event on the strength and solidarity of 12 teammates.
The freshman took home the silver plaque led by Christiana Foster’s double victories in the 200 and 400 meter dashes. Maureen Lewin won the gold in the 3000 with teammate Brianna Lausev right behind earning silver. The 4×400 teams of Rachel Cooney, Lewin, Maya Richardson, and Alyssa Pugh and the “B” team of MaryKate Trotta, Grace Cooper, Meghan Capitelli, and Erin Doherty took silver in second.
Congratulations!
