We are excited to announce that Kellenberg Memorial has been invited to participate in The Great Ignatian Challenge. In an extraordinary show of generosity, school spirit and commitment to serving the community, 22 Catholic high schools across 12 states plus Washington, DC, are conducting a friendly, but spirited Thanksgiving and Christmas food drive competition which will fill local food banks and pantries with much-needed provisions during a critical time.
Started in 2016, the Great Ignatian Challenge was initiated by Jim Rowen (Fordham Prep ’82 and the father of Megan KMHS‘16). Inspired by the Jesuit mission of becoming “women and men for others,” the Challenge highlights the collective service power and generosity among Jesuit and now Kellenberg Memorial high schools. In support of the students’ efforts, donors have also generously given more than $2.35 million towards scholarship and operational funds to Jesuit high schools as students at these institutions have collected over 1.45 million pounds of food.
The schools that participate in The Great Ignatian Challenge set a personal goal of asking every student to donate 20 lbs. of food. Kellenberg Memorial has the reputation of generosity and incredible school spirit. Because of this renowned charism, we have been asked to participate in this drive.
All donations made to Kellenberg Memorial during the Challenge will be delivered directly to pantries we have a personal relationship with such as Queen of Peace, Friars Suppliers, Island Harvest, St. Brigid’s and St. Martins food banks.

Since this is a competition, wealthy benefactors will provide prize money that will fund the KMHS Shepherd’s fund. The more food we raise per student, the more scholarship money for which we are eligible.
Give early and give often!
