On Wednesday, September 18th, the Varsity Girls Soccer team attended an after school retreat upstairs in the Emmanuel Retreat House. These retreats are a new addition to the Kellenberg sports experience, so even though I have been an athlete at school prior, I was not sure what to expect. Some of the retreats I had already been to consisted of spiritual aspects like praying or speaking of our faith experiences.
The sports retreat had a relaxed and fun atmosphere. We enjoyed team building activities that taught us valuable things that every team should possess, such as teamwork, trust, and communication. The second half of the retreat was about how our faith could affect how we play during the game. By watching a clip from the movie Rudy, we learned that hardwork pays off when you are not only working physically but spiritually. We received a prayer for athletes that we now say together as a team before practices and games. In my opinion, having this retreat with your team is important in many different ways. It can create a closer bond between the players by spending time together off the field. It also showed us how important our faith is when we are on the field. I think this aspect to Kellenberg athletics is a necessity for all teams.
