Try-out Information
LEVEL OF PLAY FOR ATHLETES
Kellenberg Memorial High School sponsors Varsity, Junior Varsity, “J.V. A”, “J.V. B”, and Freshman teams as called for by and in compliance with the various leagues in which we participate.
TRYOUTS
Since it is not always possible to accommodate the number of students who want to play on an interscholastic team, tryouts are held to determine the most skilled players and the players with the most potential. Every effort is made to make this process fair to all concerned. The decision of the coach is final with respect to the selection of players.
- Seniors and Juniors will try out for varsity teams only.
- In the normal course of events, Sophomores and Freshmen try out for non-varsity teams with their peers. However, Sophomores or Freshmen who are confident they can compete on and contribute to a varsity team, may sign up to try out for that varsity sport and are required to try out on the varsity tryout dates.
- It is important to note that the varsity team must have a genuine need for the skilled player and be able to afford the athlete sufficient playing time so as not to diminish the potential of that athlete.
- Sophomores and Freshmen trying out for a varsity sport, who are not selected for a varsity team, will continue their try outs with the non-varsity team.
