Article by Manuel Abreu ’19:
Imagine experiencing the feeling of renewal and rebirth—almost like a “new you” at the start of the year. That is close to what it’s like for all of Kellenberg Memorial students last Thursday and Friday at our annual Day of Reconciliation Prayer Service.
Life is sometimes difficult and people find themselves in need of God’s mercy, so it is important to set a day to ask for forgiveness for what we have done wrong so we could experience God’s forgiveness.
Priests from all over Long Island come to hear confessions at Kellenberg Memorial, taking time to talk to students on a personal level. Students gather during their religion periods in the auditorium. An examination of conscience is projected on the screen before them to call to mind anything students remember that they need to remember during Confession.
While all students approach the day with their own personal experience of the sacrament, all students are able to experience the freedom that comes from it.
Special thanks to the dozens of priests from the Diocese of Rockville Centre who spent the two days at Kellenberg Memorial for our students.
