The members of the Kellenberg Memorial High School junior and senior classes were called to be superheros and save lives once again this year. Our students answered that call with great enthusiasm and energy that they saved 1455 lives this year by donating blood during our two separate drives, one held in February for the seniors and the other recently held in May for the junior class. This year, our seniors donated an impressive 214 units of blood, which ended up being surpassed by the junior class’ donation of 271 units of blood, the most in school history for a single drive.
For these outstanding numbers from the generosity of our juniors and seniors, Kellenberg was awarded the “Heroglobin” award by the Long Island Blood Services. This award recognizes that 40% of the two classes participated in our annual drives. The award was received at an award ceremony at Newsday in Melville, New York on Thursday, May 28.
