Kellenberg’s Girl’s Cross Country team captured the “Varsity A” Team title at the “Six Flags Wild Safari High School Cross Country Invitational” in Jackson, New Jersey. The team had previously captured team titles this month in both Pennsylvania (The PTXC9 Kutztown University Invite), and Connecticut (The Wilton Invitational Large School Race). In winning this title, the team upended heralded North Penn H.S. of Pennsylvania and twelve other teams. With North Penn taking the early lead over the 5kilometer grassy and sandy course, the Lady Firebirds maintained their poise, and prevailed in the crucial latter part of the race. While North Penn’s girl took the individual title, Brianna Lausev led five teammates, Maureen Lewin, Maya Richardson, Ashley Minns, Anita Mikowski, and Julia Bryant all to top fourteen place finishes. Senior Claire Burns ran to her personal best as well.
The second and third place performances of Lauren Bernic and Bridget Lapham led the JV team to victory as well. In that race, Grace Browne, Clare Calabro, Meghan Capitelli, Nicole Targia, Clare Poscillico, and Emma Dougherty all finished in the top fifteen to seal their impressive win! The team is pictured here showcasing their winning team plaques on the Spring Lake, New Jersey Boardwalk. A victorious and fun day for the Lady Firebirds.
