John Reynolds ’11 has dedicated his professional career to Buchanan Public Relations, a full-service public relations and digital strategy agency just outside of Philadelphia. After interning with the firm in 2014 while studying at Villanova University, John joined full-time in 2015 and quickly rose through the ranks. Over the years, he has led media relations efforts, directed the firm’s apprenticeship program, and, most recently, took on the role of Director of Media Relations. In September 2025, John assumed full ownership of the agency, carrying forward its reputation for excellence and client-first commitment.
Was there a pivotal moment at Kellenberg that influenced the path you chose personally or professionally, or a teacher who helped you during your time that was a favorite?
I started college as a math major. I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do, but I knew I was good at math. Eventually, I switched to communication and found my way into public relations. Looking back, I credit all the writing and research I did at Kellenberg for making PR such a natural fit for me. It may not have felt fun at the time to spend so many hours researching and writing papers, but those skills have become two of the most important foundations for my career in public relations.
What’s one lesson you’ve learned in your career so far that you wish you had known earlier?
Having a second skill set is incredibly valuable in public relations. Everyone needs to be able to write, research, and think strategically. However, developing an additional skill can really set you apart and open doors in your career. It could be anything from photography and videography to graphic design or digital marketing. High school and college are the perfect times to explore those interests and turn them into assets that make you stand out professionally.
How do you see your career evolving over the next few years, and what excites you most about that journey?
Now that I’m the owner of the agency, I’m excited to focus more on growth and operations. Our immediate plan is to refresh our brand, featuring new colors, logo, and website, to reflect the next evolution of the company. From there, I want to expand our capabilities to keep pace with the ever-changing media landscape. For example, adding increased digital marketing capabilities is high on our list. I’m excited to bring my own vision to the agency and continue building on the strong foundation we’ve established.
