The Girls JV Basketball Team earned two league victories this week, continuing an immensely successful start to the season.
On Tuesday December 30, the Firebirds defeated St. John the Baptist by a score of 38 to 18. Maddie Schencman led the way with an outstanding performance of 9 points. Forward Sammy Abraham added an additional 8 points and 8 rebounds. Angelina Sorace and Marley Dyasi chipped in 5 points each and were key contributors in the defensive rotation. Steady defensive play from Autumn Roth, Lucy Carrozzo, Bella Fisher, Allison Mullowney, and Alison Niedfeld throughout the game was vital to their success.
Last night, the girls took the court for their fourth league game of the season against St. Dom’s High School and came away with a 39 to 22 win. The Firebirds set the tone early, holding the Bayhawks scoreless in the first quarter. After a challenging second quarter, the team responded after halftime behind a dominant performance from sophomore Emma Acquafredda, who scored 8 points and forced 9 turnovers. Strong play down the stretch from Marley Dyasi, Ashley O’Connor Sammy Abraham, and Tallulah Thompson helped seal the victory. Coach Sindone emphasized the team’s achievements on these two hard-earned league wins as she said “the Firebirds continue to show growth, toughness, and teamwork with each game.”
