Tennis
As the curtains close on our high school tennis season, we reflect on a journey filled with growth and camaraderie. Our team secured third place in the league, an impressive feat considering that half our squad picked up a racket just days before tryouts, and yet they stepped onto the court with courage and enthusiasm.
This season, we faced tough competition as we intended to push the limits of what our team can learn and endure. Every match showcased the growth that had occurred over the course of the season, not just in results, but also in our players’ abilities. The players who never picked up a racket before have made tremendous strides and can be proud, as we hope they carry on playing this beautiful sport.
As an example of their growth, early in the season we lost a match to St. John’s 4 courts to 3. At the end of the season, we had a double header rematch and won both matches. One being 6-1 and the other being 5-2. Again, tremendous strides.
But, these athletes are not just tennis players, they are exceptional individuals. Their dedication, positive attitudes, and willingness to learn made every practice and match a joy. From mastering forehands to building lasting bonds, they grew in skill and character.
Thank you to our players, parents, and our coach Tyler, for making this season unforgettable!
Maximillian Zawadzki
Bernie Ward Commitment Award
Having just picked up a tennis racket for the first time during the week of tryouts, Max can proudly look back at the season knowing he did everything he could to be the best tennis player possible.
Always present at practice, always on time, always attentive, and always asking questions to improve the fastest he could, if there is one word to describe what Max represented for our team during the season, it would be dedicated. Few other people could make such strides in their tennis game within only a couple of months as Max did during this Spring season.
We are looking forward to next year where we know Max is going to be a crucial part of the team and we hope others can look to his example of what it means to represent the principle of dedication.
Hunter Ciolli
Most Improved Player
From the start of the tennis season until the final day, there was not one person who changed their tennis game so dramatically as Hunter did. On the first day of tryouts, we became aware that Hunter had picked up a racket for the first time only a few days before.
Rough around the edges, but eager to learn, it quickly became clear that Hunter was on the right track to not only be another player looking to improve, but he would improve at an unbelievable rate. From learning the fundamentals to becoming part of our 2nd doubles pairing in such a short time period was just the beginning.
Perhaps the most impressive learning curve Hunter conquered was his court awareness and teamwork. As part of a doubles pairing, you and your teammate are inseparable. By the end of the season, Hunter was a leader who understood the game and communicated to a level that someone with his experience should not know how to do. As he goes onto college, we hope that Hunter continues playing and learning tennis because we know that in a few short years, he could be teaching others this beautiful sport.
Gavin Baldwin
Most Valuable Player
Our captain for the Spring tennis season and our 1st singles player, Gavin is a player of remarkable quality and dedication. But, his ability alone is not what made him the MVP for the season, it was his leadership and work rate.
Going into the season, half of our roster had never picked up a tennis racket prior to tryouts. Gavin, on the other hand, had been playing tennis for most of his life and is committed to continue playing in college. A huge skill disparity such as this one provided challenges in training and understanding from a player like Gavin to a beginner.
However, where one person may see a useless effort, Gavin saw an opportunity. The first to provide tips, the first to help another teammate, the first to cheer on his friends, the first to bring the group together during good times and bad; this is why Gavin is our MVP. Being a leader in tennis is not about winning while your teammates lose – being a leader in tennis means making everyone around you better while supporting them as best you can. For this reason, there is no better candidate for MVP this season than Gavin Baldwin.

Softball
The 2025 Varsity Softball Season began with a group of very talented and spirited players and a brand new home field which offered them the opportunity to practice and play more than ever before. The team made its annual retreat to Founders Hollow the second weekend of March and the team bonded as a unit and prepared themselves for a very challenging schedule. The first six games proved to be a period of calibration during which the players were finding themselves, and the coaches were learning what combinations and positions would work best for the entire team concept. After a 3 – 3 start, the team won 12 of its next 14 games which gave the team a 15-5 record when the Senior left for the Senior Trip. During this time period the team staged some amazing come from behind victories including a 10-9 walkoff win against Massapequa after trailing 9-3 in the 6th inning. This game was held as the annual charity / benefit game which raised more than $3,000.00 for LICADD this year. Additionally, in an upstate NY tournament the team erased a 4-2 deficit against Ballston Spa and won 11-7, and then, in the next game, the team erased an 11-6 deficit in the 6th inning to defeat Webster Thomas 14-13. During the regular season the team also recorded impressive wins against Oceanside and East Islip. At the time of writing this summary the team is 18-6 and has secured a place in the Championship at Hofstra University by defeating Holy Trinity, 9-1 and 5-0 in a best 2 of 3 semi final series. The team is poised for an exciting championship run!
Michaela Ressegger
Bernie Ward Commitment Award
The 2025 Bernie Ward Commitment Award winner for the Varsity Softball Team is Michaela Ressegger. At the start of the season Michaela was asked to transition from infield to outfield given her natural speed and arm strength. Through many weeks of hard work she improved steadily her ability to track long fly balls, line drives and “gappers.” Over the course of the last two months she has really refined throwing out a runner at first base on what would normally be a base hit through the right side of the infield. Additionally, her offensive game has grown significantly in the sense that she is a willing bunter when called upon and she frequently cuts her swing down with two strikes just in an effort to put the ball in play. Finally, when she was not in the starting lineup, she always exhibited a sincere desire for her teammates success and opportunities. Congratulations to the 2025 Varsity Softball Team Bernie Ward Commitment Award winner Michaela Ressegger.
Gianna Abbenda
Most Improved Player
The 2025 Most Improved Player on the Varsity Softball Team is Gianna Abbenda. This season Gianna has improved in many aspects of the game. In a comparable number of at bats she has raised her batting average by more than 40 points and, reduced her strikeouts in half from last year, and has 50% more RBI’s. She has also raised her slugging percentage by almost 90 points in comparison to last season. Defensively she has improved vastly as an outfielder. She has learned to remain calm under pressure and read the flight path of a fly ball much more effectively. In fact, she is one of only two players on the team who has not recorded an error this season defensively. Congratulations to Gianna Abbenda on being the 2025 Most Improved Player on the Varsity Softball Team.
Kaitlyn Larmann
Most Valuable Player
The MVP for the Varsity Softball team this year is a player who increased her batting average by more than 100 points from last season and her slugging percentage by more than 300 points compared to last year. Kaitlyn Larmann batted .479 with a .836 slugging percentage and a.506 on base percentage. She leads the team in hits (35), doubles (9), triples (4), homeruns (3), RBI’s (30), and runs scored (26). Kaitlyn has been by far the most consistent offensive performer day in and day out. She battles in every at bat and is always trying to improve her performance at the plate. She has also contributed significantly as the starting third baseman whose steady play and demeanor have been essential when dealing with the short game and mishit balls in the infield. Congratulations to Kaitlyn Larmann on being the 2025 Varsity Softball MVP!

Girls Golf
As tryouts began in March on the golf simulators in the FCAA building, expectations were high for the upcoming girls’ golf season. Championships the past two seasons put a bull’s eye on the Kellenberg Girls’ Golf team. Gone were some of the players who imparted the lessons of leadership, stability, and camaraderie. Now more than ever, new leadership along with veteran and new players would have to step up their games and answer the coach’s call of who can play their best and guide the future of the program. As the season started, victories occurred against Holy Trinity, St. John the Baptist, and Sacred Heart. However, the true test of the team would come against St. Anthony’s, our rival during the season and in the championship for over ten years. Although the final score of 4 1/2 to 1/2 doesn’t tell the entire story, the girls played well and made a statement that our team would not go down without a struggle. When the second half of the season began, the girls again found their stride with victories over the same three opponents in Holy Trinity, St. John the Baptist, and Sacred Heart but just couldn’t put their games altogether against St. Anthony’s. The team finished the regular season with six wins and two losses. In the semifinal round the girls defeated Sacred Heart a third time by the score of 4 to 1 and are waiting for the weather to clear to face St. Anthony’s a third time this season in the championship match.
Keira McCarthy
Bernie Ward Commitment Award
Keira McCarthy battled all last season with nagging injuries that affected various parts of her golf game. She never complained once about them. Keira was always trying to get back into the lineup and got a chance to play in last year’s League Tournament. This year she finished the season with seven wins and two losses while playing in the #3 spot. She has a quiet demeanor on the course and with her teammates but always plays with passion and wants to play her best. I know by her presence in the lineup that she has imparted great golf lessons on her playing partner. Keira McCarthy will be missed next year but the team wishes her nothing but success in her future endeavors.
Gabby DeBono
Most Improved Player
Last year as a freshman, Gabby got a big taste of varsity golf. She moved her way up the lineup and eventually started the championship in the #3 spot. Her play in the championship match led her to great accolades in the League Tournament, the CHSAA State Tournament, and the New York State Federation Tournament. Gabby has continued to improve in all aspects of her game this season. She has played such an important role in the #2 spot and gained valuable knowledge while playing with her partner. Her five wins, three losses, and one tie demonstrate her great talent. Gabby is not the type of girl who is just happy at being good; she wants to be great and she is even trying to create a new swing pattern during the season. Her work ethic and goal of being a great golfer make her our team’s most improved player.
Bridget LaRosa
Most Valuable Player
Bridget has been the mortar to our brick wall. She makes sure that her teammates are ready to go and always has a word of encouragement. With a record of six wins and two losses in the #1 spot, Bridget is always facing the other teams’ best players and never backs down from that challenge. She never relaxes during a match or phones in a round. Although Bridget may have a bad round or hole, she will always battle to the end of her round. The talents Bridget has developed all throughout her golf career at Kellenberg are valuable life lessons that will help her at Syracuse University and in life. We will miss her booming drives off the tee and great team personality, and the team and I wish her nothing but the best in the future.

Baseball
This past March, forty-five baseball candidates ranging from Freshman to Seniors tried out for a Varsity baseball team that was coming off of a very successful 2024 season with a final record of 14-5 and a first round bye in the playoffs. However, after graduating 16 Seniors from last year’s team, the coaching staff knew we’d have a lot of evaluations and decisions to make for the 2025 season. Preseason workouts started in the Fall and continued through the entire winter in the batting cages of the Firebird Center for Arts and Athletics. After 5 days of intense tryouts during the first week of March, our youngest and most diverse team ever was put together, consisting of 10 seniors, 13 juniors, 2 sophomores, and for the first time in school history 1 freshman on Varsity Baseball. To begin the season, the team faced an early setback by dropping the opening series to fall to a record of 0-2, positioning us at the bottom of the league standings. Attention to detail at practices intensified over the course of the next week along with the desire and motivation to put ourselves back into the middle of the pack. From that moment on, the boys won 13 of their next 17 league games, including 9 in a row at one point, and catapulted themselves towards the top of the standings for the rest of the season. The team finished with a league record of 13-6, tied for second place in the regular season, thanks to contributions from many players in multiple areas. Seniors Jack Durso, Mario Coscia, Ryan Langner, Owen Bory, Carson Fessler, Michael Monte, and Lucas Vamvaketis all played an integral role in the offense this season with important contributions from newcomers Richie LaVacca, Jaden Valdez, Andrew Noe, and Michael Cotto, Every baseball team’s success, however, ultimately lies within their pitching staff. This year’s pitching staff finished with a team ERA of 2.17, led by Miami commit and Player of the Year candidate Jack Durso and Adelphi commit Eric Ressegger, along with a strong supporting cast of Joe Demos, Alex Smith, Kevin Prosceo, and Chris Parisi. Congratulations to all of our Seniors on a tremendous four years of baseball at Kellenberg.
Eric Ressegger
Bernie Ward Commitment Award
Senior Eric Ressegger is a true team player in every definition of the term. As a pitcher committed to Division II Adelphi University, Eric naturally became a leader of the Varsity baseball team this year. Although he wouldn’t play every game due to his role as a pitcher, he would be a strong presence within the team in pregame warmups, on the bench during games, and at practices. Eric had a tremendous season in the most difficult league on Long Island. Statistically, Eric finished the season with a 3-0 record on the mound, compiling statistics that include a 2.37 ERA in 23.2 innings and a memorable 6 innings pitched in a victory over Chaminade. Eric has a bright baseball future ahead and will always be an important member of the Kellenberg Baseball Program.
Mariano Coscia
Most Improved Player
Senior Mario Coscia came into tryouts this past March a completely different player from last season, both physically and mentally. Motivated to prove he’s one of the best players in the league after committing to Division II powerhouse Molloy University, Mario showed up in tremendous physical shape and ready to play every day at a high level. This season, Mario improved his batting average from last year by more than 80 points, tied for the league lead in home runs (3), top 10 in RBI’s in the league (15), and top 7 in stolen bases (10). Most importantly, Mario was a game changer for the team on defense. As a natural second basemen, Mario ended up playing the least amount of time at that position, willing to move around to all other infield positions throughout the season when the team needed it the most. We look forward to watching Mario’s continued growth and drive as a baseball player at the next level!
Jack Durso
Most Valuable Player
Senior Jack Durso is a 3-year player on the Varsity Baseball team, being called up as a sophomore in 2023. Committed to Division 1 University of Miami as a pitcher, Jack displayed the ability to excel on both sides of the ball this season. Jack led the entire league in ERA at 0.75 and was fifth in strikeouts with 40 in 27 innings pitched. On the offensive side of the ball, Jack finished the regular season fifth in the league in batting average at .364 with 5 doubles and 12 RBI’s in just 33 at-bats. The gift of showcasing your skills in both areas of the game in the CHSAA is something special and Jack has been one of those rare talents that we have seen over the years. Jack’s transformation as a leader and a baseball player over the past 3 seasons has been remarkable and we couldn’t be more proud of him.

Volleyball
In a season marked by resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, the boys volleyball team completed a remarkable journey. With an undefeated record of 10 wins and 0 losses in conference play which includes a 30 win and 3 loss set record, the team not only dominated their schedule but did so with a level of consistency and effort that became their hallmark. Winning thirty sets and dropping only three in the regular season, they left no doubt about their strength, and twice they triumphed over their rivals, Chaminade, a testament to their focus and skill.
However this season was more than just wins and losses. Faced with the adversity of several injuries to key returning starters, the team found strength in one another. In moments where others might have faltered, they rose, pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones, trusting in their preparation, and ensuring that no match was lost to a lack of effort. Our season’s philosophies of “controlling the controllable”, “striving to be 1% better each day”, and refusing to be outworked were not just a motto for us, but a way of life.
At the heart of this remarkable run was senior outside hitter Ryan Exarhos, who was rightfully recognized as the unanimous conference Player of the Year. His leadership on and off the court set a standard, but he was not alone. Alongside him were fellow seniors Thomas Pinto, Ethan Murray, CJ Galanga, Corey Rylander, Sebastian Forte, and Dylan Zingales and juniors Michael Tagios, Ryan Bargellini, and Samuel Gluck. Together, these players left an indelible mark on the program- not just through victories, but through the example they set for every player who will follow.
This season was a testament to the power of unity, the strength of perseverance, and the unmatched spirit of a team determined to be more than just a collection of individuals. As the boys have heard us say countless times: on a good team, coaches lead but on a great team, the players lead. It was a journey defined by moments of joy, struggle, and triumph, all tied together by a bond that could not be broken. No matter what the future holds, this team has built a legacy, one forged in hard work, resilience, and the unwavering belief that together, they could achieve greatness.
Charles (CJ) Galanga
Bernie Ward Commitment Award
Tonight, we honor not just the big plays but the unsung heroes- the quiet warriors whose impact goes beyond the scoreboard. This year, our Most Committed Award goes to someone who embodies heart and hustle- our libero, CJ Galanga.
The libero may not always get the spotlight, but CJ’s value is undeniable. His energy, intensity, and grit are unmatched. Whether diving for impossible saves, chasing down errant passes, or throwing himself across the floor, CJ’s relentless effort has fueled our team. He doesn’t wait to be told what to do, he just does it. Vocal, fearless, and driven, CJ brings the same fire to every practice- no drills off, no reps wasted. His impact isn’t just physical, it’s his mindset. He’s the one who lifts us when we’re down, stays late to perfect his game, and refuses to let us quit, even on the toughest days.
CJ’s dedication can’t be taught- it’s a rare, relentless spirit that has carried us through our toughest matches. His work ethic and passion remind us that commitment means more than just showing up, it means giving everything, every day.
You may wear a different color jersey, but we all know, you bleed the same colors as the rest of us. You have earned this recognition in every dive, every hustle play, and every moment you gave your all for this team.
Please join me in congratulating this year’s Most Committed award recipient, CJ Galanga.
Sebastian Forte
Most Improved Player
Tonight, we celebrate not just talent, but true growth, the kind born from hard work, resilience, and putting the team first. This year, no one embodies that growth more than our Most Improved Player, Sebastian Forte.
Sebastian’s journey is a testament to perseverance. Joining us as a junior outside hitter, he saw limited court time. For many, this could have been discouraging. But not for Sebastian. Instead, he committed himself, playing club, managing teams, and mastering the game. When he returned this season, he was unrecognizable, not just as a player, but as a leader.
He didn’t just improve in his comfort zone; he stepped out of it entirely, transitioning from outside hitter to middle blocker, a demanding change requiring new skills and strategies. Yet, Sebastian didn’t just adapt; he excelled. His blocking became a wall, his attacks precise, and his presence undeniable. He became a cornerstone of our team, impacting matches with his athleticism and his ability to learn and lead. But his true achievement goes beyond stats. Sebastian showed us what it means to refuse complacency, to embrace challenges, and to always strive for more. He has transformed himself and, in doing so, inspired all of us.
Sebastian, you have not only improved, you have set an example of relentless determination and selflessness. Please join me in congratulating our Most Improved Player- Sebastian Forte.
Ryan Exarhos
Most Valuable Player
This season has been one of challenges, growth, and unforgettable moments. Amidst it all, one individual has stood out not just for his performance but for his role in leading this team with discipline, strength, and with unwavering commitment- our team captain, Ryan Exarhos.
When we talk about Most Valuable Players, it is easy to focus on the highlights- the big plays, the jaw-dropping moments that bring crowds to their feet. Yes, Ryan has certainly had his share of those. His athleticism and competitive spirit are undeniable, but what truly sets him apart is his relentless dedication. He arrived early, stayed late, and led by example, never asking for more than he gave himself. In high-pressure moments he excelled, remaining calm, focused, and dependable, regardless of the score. His leadership was more than a title- it was an attitude. He inspired us not just with his skill, but with his character.
As captain, Ryan was a unifier. He provided solutions in tough times, calm in heated moments, and motivation when spirits were low. His consistency- both in performance and in character- made him the teammate every coach dreams of. Humble in victory, accountable in defeat, he always prioritized team success. He kept us grounded, united, and focused on the bigger picture. Great captains don’t just play well, they make everyone around them better. Ryan, thank you for leading with courage and integrity. Your legacy will inspire this team for years to come.

Boys Crew
The 2025 rowing season was a true test of resilience, determination, and growth for the Firebird rowing team. From early spring practices to the final regattas of the year, the team battled not just fierce competition but also the unpredictable challenges of Mother Nature.
Early in the season, the team faced relentless weather conditions that disrupted training schedules and tested their mental toughness. High winds and heavy rain often forced rowers indoors or shortened water time. Yet, through it all, the athletes remained focused and committed, using every opportunity—whether on the erg, in the weight room, or during land drills—to build strength and endurance.
As the weather began to improve, so did the team’s performance. Crews that had struggled with timing and coordination in March showed marked improvement by the end of April. Coaches noted stronger boat chemistry, sharper technique, and more consistent power output across all lineups.
The highlight of the season came at the New York State Championships, where the team delivered its strongest collective showing in recent memory. The boys varsity crew earned a top-10 finish in an incredibly competitive field, while the girls varsity boat made a statement with a top-5 finish. Equally impressive was the boys novice crew, which also placed in the top 5, a testament to the talent and potential of Kellenberg’s next generation of rowers.
With a strong foundation laid and many underclassmen returning next year, we are excited to see what the team can accomplish this fall.
Michael Bellocco
Bernie Ward Commitment Award
Michael’s commitment to the crew team has been evident in his consistent attendance at practices, his relentless work ethic, and his positive influence on teammates. His dedication has not only contributed to his personal growth but has also inspired those around him to strive for excellence. His passion for the sport, paired with his strong sense of responsibility and team-first attitude, has made a lasting impact on the crew program. As both a rower and a leader, Alex embodies the values of commitment, excellence, and camaraderie. It is with great pride that we recognize Alex Gervasi as this season’s Most Valuable Rower.

Boys Lacrosse
The 2025 boys’ varsity lacrosse season has been one to remember—and we’re hoping the best is still to come as we push toward the playoffs. Our regular season record of 10–5 marks the best regular season performance our program has seen in the past ten years. Among those ten wins were thrilling one-goal victories over defending Double-A state champion Stepinac, Connecticut state champion Cheshire, and Conference 1’s top-ranked Massapequa. Each of these hard-fought wins reflects this team’s ability to rise to the occasion and perform under pressure.
Our success stems from the commitment and leadership shown by our captains and senior class. From day one, they fully embraced our program’s daily goals: to improve a little each day and to take full advantage of every opportunity we have. Even before the season officially began, their dedication was evident in the strong turnout at outdoor winter workouts and early morning 7 a.m. shoot-arounds in the gym. This team continues to impress us with their positive mindset, relentless drive to win, and the unity they show both on and off the field. As coaches, we couldn’t be prouder of their daily effort and team-first attitude.
As we remain focused on our daily goals, we now set our sights on the bigger picture—our season goal of winning a Double-A state championship. That journey continues into Memorial Day weekend with the State Semifinals against the Buffalo Division Champion coming up later this week.
Donovan O'Toole
Bernie Ward Commitment Award

The 2025 Commitment Award winner goes to a player who is quite literally the definition of Commitment. This player has been one of the hardest-working individuals in the program since he stepped onto campus four years ago. He pushes himself to the limit every time he plays, and encourages others to follow in his footsteps. He routinely arrives at school early to attend weight-lifting sessions – even on game days – and is always ready to be called upon when needed. It’s my pleasure to present the Bernie Ward Commitment Award to Donovan O’Toole!
Kevin Baumann
Most Improved Player
Improvement can be seen in many different ways on a lacrosse team. This year’s award winner chose to buy into his physical training regimen and change his mindset towards the game. Last year, he played attack and was the 4th or 5th player off the bench. This year, he has been our starting short-stick defenseman all season (even playing through an injury) and has been a pivotal reason for the team’s success. I am proud to present the Most Improved Player Award to Kevin Baumann!
Stephen Kiernan Jr.
Most Valuable Player
On a team that has showcased so much skill from so many different players, it is always difficult to choose an MVP. However, Stephen’s impact as a player goes far beyond just his position of defenseman. Stephen leads the team in caused turnovers and ground balls while also tallying 7 goals and 2 assists offensively. Stephen is tasked every game with guarding the opposing team’s best player and is a significant factor in why our defense has only let up double-digit goals on four occasions. Congratulations to Stephen Kiernan for earning the title of MVP!

Boys Golf
I’d like to address the seniors on the team. When they were freshman, their head coach became very ill. Prior to their sophomore year, Water Ostroske, the legendary golf coach, had passed away. That’s a lot for a team to go through. These seniors handled it with maturity and class and I will forever be grateful to these young man for that. The simulators in the new building had a huge impact on the new popularity for the sport but I believe it has been the seniors success over the past four seasons that has contributed to the excitement surrounding the team. These boys spread the word about how much fun we have been having getting together a few times a week to play golf. And it worked.
This year we kept 30 members on the team, the biggest golf team in school history. The team would gather in the simulators as we split practices in two. Our motto, “Nobody has more fun that us” became contagious and we could see rapid improvement. The team finished in 3rd place and 8 qualified for the league tournament. The highlight of the season was the last day of the regular season. We had a tri meet and a quad match at Eisenhower, all while our non starters played the Red course at Eisenhower. 31 Firebirds played that day, covering the greens with Blue and Gold! It was an awesome way to finish what was an incredibly fun season. Congratulations to all the members of the team. It was a pleasure coaching all of you.
Eamon Cormican
Bernie Ward Commitment Award
Golf can be extremely frustrating. Anyone who plays has experienced the ups and downs that comes with the sports. Eamon Cormican experienced a lot of success his Freshman year then struggled as a Sophomore. Eamon was not about to let that happen his Junior year! Eamon worked hard, not only at practice, but outside of Kellenberg. Eamon Cormican is Golf”s Bernie Ward Commitment Award winner.
Dan Natale
Most Improved Player
Last year, Dan was our 8th man. He would sneak into the line up and get some experience but he wasn’t “there yet.” This year Dan finished the season as our number 3 golfer and was in the top three of most stats. Dan has a tremendous future and will be a huge part of the team next year as a leader.
Jude Martucci
Most Valuable Player
Jude has been our number 1 since day 1! Jude usually hovered around par the entire season. His mammoth drives and pin point approach shots made him a force to be reckoned with in the league. He led the team in all statistical categories and looks to have a huge senior season next year!

Girls Lacrosse
The 2025 season was a powerful display of growth, resilience, and unity for the Girls Varsity Lacrosse team. From the first whistle of preseason to the final moments of competition, this group of athletes showed unwavering commitment, determination, and heart.
The team experienced many great wins and some tough losses throughout the season. Yet with every challenge, the girls responded with determination and maturity. Each loss was taken as a lesson, fueling their desire to grow and improve. They consistently pushed each other to be better, holding themselves and one another to a high standard. That growth mindset became a defining characteristic of this team and helped them evolve with each game.
One of the season’s most memorable highlights was the hard-fought victory over Sacred Heart—a huge team win that not only boosted morale but also helped improve the girls’ playoff seeding. It marked the first time the varsity team had defeated Sacred Heart since 2021, a true testament to their development and determination in an extremely competitive league.
Some of the most beautiful moments of the season came off the scoreboard. The team organized and played meaningful games in honor of Morgan’s Message and The Mary Ruchalski Foundation—playing in memory and support of causes far greater than the sport itself. These games reminded players, coaches, and families alike of what truly matters: honoring others, raising awareness, and coming together as a team and community for something bigger than ourselves.
The team’s seniors set a strong example of leadership, accountability, and sportsmanship that will leave a lasting impact on the program. The foundation laid this season will carry forward in the years to come.
The future of Girls Varsity Lacrosse is bright. We are incredibly proud of how far this team has come and excited for what lies ahead.
Scarlett Frisone
Bernie Ward Commitment Award
Scarlett Frisone is the recipient of this season’s Bernie Ward Commitment Award. Scarlett, a former Latin School student, played selfless defense the entire season. As the senior leader of the defense, she was an excellent role model to the underclassmen she played beside every game. Scarlett also welcomed all new teammates with open arms, and knew how to make everyone feel valued.
Scarlett never once shied away from a challenge when asked. Playing the demanding backer position, she became the voice of the defense, constantly communicating, organizing, and inspiring her teammates. At practice, Scarlett was never without a smile on her face. She gave 100% in all drills and celebrated her teammates’ successes.
While her role didn’t always earn her the spotlight or accolades in game recaps, she was the glue that held the defense together. Whether face-guarding one of the league’s toughest opponents or supporting her teammates through every challenge, she quietly made everyone around her better. Her selfless, steady presence made her the unsung hero of the defense and a true embodiment of the spirit of the Bernie Ward Commitment Award.
Kate Maier
Most Improved Player
Kate Maier, a second-year varsity player, earned the Most Improved Award for her remarkable growth and impact throughout her junior season on the Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team. Initially quiet and steady, Kate quickly emerged as a key contributor on both ends of the field, evolving into a dynamic two-way midfielder. As the year progressed, she took on the role of defensive director—calling out slides, initiating doubles, and ensuring that the unit moved as one. Her ability to read the offense and communicate effectively helped keep the defense organized and aggressive. She became a trusted voice and presence during high-pressure moments.
In one of the team’s biggest wins over Sacred Heart, Kate played a pivotal role—organizing the defense, directing the attack, and helping create crucial goal-scoring opportunities while shutting down our opponent’s offense. She shared her knowledge of the game of lacrosse not only in practices, but also in team film sessions. Kate’s direction and leadership only grew throughout the season, and she shared more and more with her teammates each day. By the end of the season, her teammates looked to her for guidance, and she fully stepped into a leadership role with poise and purpose. Kate’s transformation into a confident leader and trusted presence on the field made her a clear and deserving recipient of this year’s Most Improved Award.
Delaney Clark
Most Valuable Player
Delaney Clark has been an absolute cornerstone of the Girls Varsity Lacrosse program and is this year’s well-deserved Most Valuable Player. A true leader who leads by example, Delaney plays with unmatched passion, heart, and grit. Her talent is undeniable, but what sets her apart is her incredibly high lacrosse IQ, relentless work ethic, and unwavering commitment to her team.
As her teammates say, Delaney puts the “fire” in “Firebird.” Her mental and physical resilience is astounding—facing down 50–70 mph shots daily without complaint, and quite literally putting her body on the line for her team. Even more remarkable is her dedication off the field. She regularly attends early morning strength and conditioning sessions and seeks out extra training opportunities, including organizing fall ball play, leading winter workouts, and even joining boys’ team shoot-arounds for extra reps.
Delaney is not only a fierce competitor but also the ultimate teammate. She supports and uplifts everyone around her, always cheering others on, even when they score against her. Her coachability, humility, and sportsmanship are everything we hope to see in an athlete and more.
Over her three seasons on varsity, Delaney has tallied nearly 400 career saves—an extraordinary accomplishment. Her future at Holy Cross is incredibly bright, and we are beyond proud to have had her as a Firebird. Congratulations, Delaney—your impact on this team will be felt for years to come.

Girls Track
From cold practices in March to sun-drenched meets in May, these athletes put in the work, day after day.
Our throwers set the foundation early and only grew stronger. Molly Freeman opened with a 24-foot personal best in the weight throw and continued to be a steady force in discus. Zuri Louis started strong in shot put with a 5th-place finish and was joined by freshmen Marley Dyasi and Chloe Fourrien, who delivered a freshman sweep in both shot and discus at the Frosh/Soph Championships. They show strong promise for the program’s future.
In sprints, Mackenzie Brown set the tone from the first meet, winning double gold in the 400 and 200—and kept winning, staying strong in the 400 all season. Bianca Jean-Baptiste was a steady medalist in the 100 and 200. Ally Ferrante and Kayla Stair were key parts of the 100-meter breakout and relay squads, always pushing for finals and top finishes.
Middle- and long-distance runners like Char Marmol and Shannon Pulis showed growth every week. Char opened with a top-5 finish in the 800. Shannon broke through in the 1600 with a bronze and kept improving. Hayden Nolan progressed in both the 800 and 3000. Brooke Corbett showed her range by trying the 3000 for the first time at Frosh/Soph and ended with a silver.
In the jumps, Anabelle Senatus stood out with a gold in triple jump and silver in long jump. Abby Woodruff showed her consistency in the long jump as our top performer all season.
Our relay squads were electric. The 4×400, featuring Maya Hadpawat, Sienna Pimentel, Charlize Marmol, Mackenzie Brown, and Harper Lollo, won multiple meets. The 4×100 team—Bianca Jean-Baptiste, Abby Woodruff, Keierra Ndukwu, and Kayla Stair—delivered top finishes, including gold and silver medals.
At Championships this past Saturday, the Firebirds put on an unforgettable performance. Alana Pepe kicked off the day with a strong 3rd in javelin. Shannon Pulis placed 4th in the 2000m steeplechase, and Hayden Nolan placed 5th in the 3000. In the 100m finals, Bianca Jean-Baptiste placed 3rd with Ally Ferrante right behind in 4th. Charlize Marmol placed 5th in the 800, and Mackenzie Brown surged to victory in the 400. Sienna Pimentel and Harper Lollo dominated the 400 hurdles, going 1-2. Mackenzie and Bianca added more hardware with 2nd and 3rd in the 200. The 4×400 relay of Sienna, Mackenzie, Gabby Perrotta, and Harper won gold. The 4×100 team—Bianca, Abby, Keierra, and Ally—took silver. The 4×800 squad of Shannon, Charlize, Brooke, and Hayden earned bronze. In the field, Abby and Anabelle hit big PRs in the long jump, finishing 4th and 5th. Continuing Kellenberg’s triple jump tradition, Keierra, Anabelle, and Sienna pulled off the sweep. In discus, Maria Contreras threw a huge PR of 98 feet to take 3rd, with Molly Freeman in 4th. Freshman Marley Dyasi showed major promise, taking 5th in shot and 6th in discus. All these efforts earned the team a 3rd place overall finish—a testament to talent, depth, and heart.
Maria Contreras
Bernie Ward Commitment Award
The best thing I can say about Maria Contreras is this—she cares. She cares deeply about being better every single day, and that kind of drive is contagious. Her competitive fire fuels not only her own growth but lifts the entire team around her. Yes, she can get in her own head sometimes but that’s only because her biggest strength is also her greatest challenge: the constant desire to be better than she was the day before. That hunger to improve, that relentless pursuit of greatness, is something you simply can’t teach. Maria is the kind of athlete every coach dreams of self-motivated, committed, and passionate. You never have to ask her if she’s putting in the extra work. She’s already doing it. She’s the first one to ask to get throws in and often the last one still on the field. That dedication, that consistency—it puts a smile on your face because you know you’re watching someone who’s all in. Every throw she makes whether it’s a triumph or a learning moment, you feel it. You feel the emotion, the effort, and the heart behind it. That’s what makes her so easy to root for.
Congratulations, Maria, on earning the Commitment Award. You’ve earned it in every possible way, and we’re so proud of you!
Bianca Jean-Baptiste
Most Improved Player
Bianca Jean-Baptiste has grown tremendously over her four years on both the winter and spring track teams, and it’s been an absolute joy to witness her transformation. From day one, she showed up ready to work—focused, determined, and committed to improving. As she moved into her upperclassman years, her quiet confidence turned into strong, steady leadership. It became clear to everyone that she was captain material—and she never let us down. Bianca welcomed constructive criticism with grace and used it as fuel to keep getting better. The results spoke volumes. Race after race, she powered her way into the final rounds of the short sprints. On relay teams, she was the dependable, fast, and efficient leg we could always count on. She brings a calm, magnetic energy to the team. She’s never loud, but always present and her teammates looked up to her more than she probably even realizes. This outdoor season, Bianca continued to drop her times in both the 100 and 200 meters, showing just how far she’s come. She is more than deserving of the Most Improved Award, and while we are so proud of how much she’s accomplished, there’s no denying it that Bianca will be deeply missed. Wishing you all the best as you take your incredible talent to the next level. May your college running career be filled with success, growth, and unforgettable moments!
Mackenzie Brown
Most Valuable Player
If you’re ever looking for an athlete with true depth, Mackenzie Brown is your girl. She has been an integral part of our running program for all four years, giving her heart and soul to all 12 seasons. Her commitment, consistency, and passion molded her into the powerhouse she is today. She isn’t just finishing her high school track journey, but stepping confidently into collegiate running. This year, everything clicked for Mackenzie. She absolutely ruled as our star sprinter during the outdoor season. Every time she stepped onto the track for the 200 or 400 meters, we knew we were in for something special. Her form was smooth, her drive was relentless, and her times just kept dropping. Then came the 100—an event she had never run before in her Kellenberg career. But she didn’t just try it—she stunned us all with an explosive performance that proved her range, turnover, and raw speed. Mackenzie’s hard work, her motivational pre-race talks, and her unwavering grit paid off in a major way. She won the 400 meters at the NSCHSAA/NSCHSGAA League Championships, took silver in the 200, and ran a show-stopping leg on the 4×400 relay team that brought home the gold. There’s no question that Mackenzie earned the title of MVP, and we couldn’t be prouder. She has been a force on this team, and while we’ll miss her tremendously, we’re so excited to see what she accomplishes next at the collegiate level. Congratulations, Mackenzie—you are more than ready for what’s ahead!
