Kellenberg Aviation Club featured two events for students interested in aviation careers: each hosted by a woman aviator! On November 20, Captain Paige Reiger, Firebird Class of 2017, hosted a discussion of “Women in Aviation” at the FCAA where she addressed the unique challenges for women entering a field traditionally dominated by men. A discussion of the role of military aviation in becoming a professional pilot was hosted by Lieutenant Julie Lindell on December 2.
Capt. Reiger also hosted a forum exploring pathways to becoming a professional airline pilot for men and women.
Mrs. Frem notes, “Capt. Reiger exemplifies paying it forward. After graduating Kellenberg, she attended the Florida Institute of Technology where she began her professional pilot training. Now she is inspiring a future generation of Kellenberg pilots.”
Capt. Reiger emphasized the attributes of a professional pilot which include punctuality, responsibility, trustworthiness, and leadership. She related how being elected the president of her sorority taught her invaluable management and leadership skills that she brings to the flightdeck every day.
Following her graduation, Capt. Reiger joined Endeavor Air, which is owned and operated by Delta Airlines where she flies a Canadair CRJ900 regional jet throughout the United States.
Lieutenant Lindell began her career as an elementary school teacher before the flying bug bit. Inspired to become a pilot, Lieutenant Lindell obtained her private pilot’s license as a civilian flying after school at the local airport.
After obtaining her license, she joined the New Jersey Air National Guard where she was selected to attend a unique training program with the US Air Force. Upon completing 18 months of training, she has now begun transitioning to the KC-46 Pegasus, the military equivalent of a Boeing 767, where she travels around the world refueling US and allied aircraft.
Lieutenant Lindell shared her insight into successfully switching careers and pursuing her dream to become a military aviator. Her message centered on the importance of continually learning, challenging yourself, prioritizing teamwork, and never forfeiting your aspirations.
In March, Capt. Reiger will be hosting a Zoom event for students and parents exploring the role of college in becoming a professional pilot. Stay tuned!
